The Memory Box: A Book About Grief

How do you help a child process loss, death, grief?
It can be so overwhelming right?!
Especially when your dealing with your own feelings too.
I have learned personally that
The only way out is through…➡️ 🚸🛣

The 3rd post in this grief series:

This is an important part of my 🧰 parenting toolbox series to guide us in our pain, as we go “there” with our children, to honor their pain. I’ve learned how important it is to SHOW children HOW to process their emotions in emotionally healthy ways as they watch us do so – messy tears and all. It’s all part of loving and letting go of someone we’ve loved.🥰😥❤️

This beautiful book helps a child process 2 questions:
1. “Will I forget my loved one?”
2. “What do I do with my feelings”
While going back and forth between the 2 realities of:
letting go and holding on
as part of the grief process.🎢🌊

I love how as the child in this story gathers items for her memory box 📦 and asks others to share their memories about her loved one👨‍👩‍👧‍👦.  The illustrations and simple words show how she moves through her fear and sadness to hope and acceptance.

What is something that has helped your family HONOR a child’s pain or
HELP them process their grief?
